When will the USA & Canada Re-open?
It will be nearly a year since most International borders closed but the vaccines are providing hope of a return to “somewhat” normal operations and the easing of border restrictions.
We would like to provide an update on the situation as it stands to assist with planning and expectations moving forward. There is no official date for the opening of International borders although we can confirm that no international arrivals travelling for leisure will be permitted until at least May 2021 at the earliest.
Whilst a slim possibility exists for USA arrivals from May 2021, our best estimate is that border restrictions will not be eased until at least July and more likely late summer 2021. In Canada infections have been low but due to the slow roll out of vaccines re-opening will no doubt be delayed until late 2021.
We will accept provisional reservations without a deposit post June 2021 if requested however our very strong advice is to look towards the end July & into August unless specific bilateral travel “bubbles” have been officially announced.
The above advice is provided in the context of:
- The UK, Canada & USA all have bans in place for leisure travelers.
- Airlines are currently operating a limited number of North America flights.
- The percentage of the population vaccinated so far is U.K 28%, USA 20%, Canada 4%
- The Canada / US land border remains closed except to commercial traffic
